O trabalho infantil no Brasil é um grande problema social. Dentre as piores formas destaca-se o trabalho nas carvoarias. Nesse contexto, o trabalho artístico de Benedito Silva, é um grito, um chamamento, para que estas questões não caiam no esquecimento. Na série fotográfica “Chão preto” o artista traz o universo subjetivo da infância soterrada pelo carvão, em cujos silêncios ainda existem cor e a esperança de que uma criança possa vir a resgatar o brinquedo ou o doce ali deixado.

Child labor in Brazil is a major social problem. Among its worst forms is the work done in charcoal production. In this context, the artistic work of Benedito Silva is a cry, a plea for these issues to not be forgotten. In the photographic series “Chão preto” (“Black ground”) the artist portrays the subjective world of childhood buried underneath the charcoal, where, in the silence, there still exists color and the hope that a child can recover the toy or the sweet left behind.
