Nasci em Camanducaia, no sul de Minas Gerais. Sou artista visual, fotógrafo, autor, escritor e pesquisador. Sou filho de Geralda e Sebastião, que tiveram acesso apenas aos primeiros anos da educação formal. Cresci ao lado de seis irmãos, numa família em que os recursos eram escassos, mas a convicção de que a educação poderia transformar destinos jamais vacilou. Guardo com nitidez uma lembrança que atravessa toda a minha trajetória: meu pai comprando, fiado, na papelaria da cidade, os livros recomendados pelos professores para que eu fosse o primeiro aluno da turma a tê-los em mãos. Aquele gesto silencioso valeu mais do que qualquer discurso. Foi ali que compreendi que o conhecimento não é um privilégio reservado a poucos, mas uma responsabilidade assumida por aqueles que reconhecem o seu poder de transformar vidas. Essa compreensão tornou-se o eixo da minha existência. Escolhi a interdisciplinaridade não apenas como método de estudo, mas como uma forma de compreender o mundo. Cada etapa da minha formação — da graduação ao mestrado e ao doutorado — representou um compromisso renovado com a missão que herdei dos meus pais: honrar os seus sacrifícios e afirmar a educação como uma das mais poderosas forças de transformação humana.
I was born in Camanducaia, a small town in the mountains of Minas Gerais, Brazil. I am a visual artist, photographer, author, writer and researcher. I am the son of Geralda and Sebastião, whose formal education ended in primary school. I grew up alongside six siblings in a family of modest means, yet one that never doubted the transformative power of education. One memory has remained with me throughout my life. I remember my father buying my schoolbooks on credit from the local stationer's so that I would be the first pupil in my class to have the books recommended by my teachers. That quiet act of sacrifice taught me more than any lesson ever could. It was then that I came to understand that knowledge is not a privilege, but a responsibility. That conviction has shaped every stage of my journey. I chose interdisciplinarity not simply as an academic approach, but as a way of understanding the world. Every degree I pursued, followed by a master's and a doctorate, became the expression of a lifelong commitment: to honour my parents' sacrifices and to affirm education as one of humanity's most powerful forces for transformation.

Academic and Cultural Engagement
A commitment to culture has been a defining thread throughout my life.
I am a Corresponding Member of the Academy of Arts and Letters of Fortaleza (ALAF), a Member of the Academy of Sciences, Arts and Letters of Vitória (ACLAVE), and a Member of the Luminescência Academy of Araraquara, in the state of São Paulo.
My connection with the community has always been profound. Long before my academic career took shape, I was already immersed in artistic and cultural life. I founded theatre groups and Congado cultural ensembles, performed with the Grupo de Serestas Reviver, and served for four consecutive years as Mestre-Sala of the Mocidade Independente Unidos do Samba samba school in Camanducaia, Minas Gerais.
These experiences did far more than nurture my artistic sensibility—they shaped the way I understand culture itself. They taught me that art is not merely a form of expression, but a living language through which communities preserve memory, celebrate identity and give voice to their collective spirit.
Today, that same conviction continues to guide my work across the visual arts, photography, literature and academic research, where creative practice and intellectual enquiry exist in constant dialogue, united by a shared commitment to cultural heritage, human experience and enduring aesthetic value.
Concluiu a tríade clássica das Ciências da Gestão: Administração, Contabilidade e Economia. He completed the classical triad of the Management Sciences, holding degrees in Business Administration, Accounting and Economics.
Ao concluir todas as licenciaturas que estruturam a formação de professores para a Educação Básica no Brasil, Benedito Silva consolidou uma visão genuinamente interdisciplinar, na qual arte, ciência e educação deixam de ser campos isolados para constituir uma única forma de compreender, ensinar e transformar o mundo.By completing the full spectrum of degree programmes that underpin teacher education for Brazil's Basic Education system, Benedito Silva cultivated a genuinely interdisciplinary vision in which the arts, the sciences and education are no longer seen as separate disciplines, but as complementary expressions of a single way of understanding, teaching and transforming the world.

MENEDICO nasce de um equívoco.

As obras de MENEDICO não procuram o extraordinário.
Elas revelam o extraordinário que habita o comum.

Um barquinho de papel.
Uma lua.
Um arco.
Os gatos não são apenas animais.

Os barquinhos não atravessam rios.

MENEDICO was born from a misunderstanding.
From a name heard differently.
